I dreamed about my ex partner Alexandra last night. I haven’t dreamt about her since we got divorced. I was walking to my garage, and both bays were empty. I wondered where my cars went to. I opened the garage and the cars were in the driveway. But there was an industrial type van between them and the now open garage doors. I peaked inside the van windows and saw an open laptop a work area, a sleeping area and lots of things neatly arranged on surfaces, but very cluttered then I saw a movement and the back doors opened and there was Alexandra. I was very happy to see her. Her face was aged and lined, but her eyes smiled. Her hair was matted to the side of her head in one spot. She mumbled something I couldn’t understand. I asked her to repeat it, but I still couldn’t understand her. I asked her if she was on drugs and she nodded and smiled. She wanted to talk, but she wasn’t able to. I wanted to hear her stories but she couldn’t tell them. She wanted to touch me, but I gently refused. She wanted to come into my house, but again I gently refused. I was OK talking from the rear of her van. I was very happy to see her. I had lots to say, but I didn’t need to.
Dreaming about an ex-partner, especially when you haven't thought about them in a long time, can be significant. Here's an interpretation of your dream:
The empty garage bays might symbolize a sense of absence or emptiness in certain aspects of your life. Typically, the garage is a place of storage and preparedness, suggesting perhaps you feel something is missing or not in its rightful place in your current life situation. The fact that your cars are outside but blocked by a van implies there's an obstacle preventing you from accessing or confronting these elements of your life directly.
The industrial van represents a form of transition or a temporary state of being, mixing elements of work and domestic life in a cluttered, yet organized haphazardly. It suggests that while life may seem orderly on the outside, internally there might be confusion or chaos. This could relate to feelings or memories about your past, represented by your ex-partner, Alexis.
Seeing Alexandra in the van could symbolize unresolved feelings or unfinished chapters from your past relationship. Her aged appearance and unkempt look might suggest how you've perceived the passage of time on your past relationship—recognizing changes in both of you that make returning to that past unfeasible or undesirable. Her inability to speak clearly and the indication of drug use might reflect concerns or perceptions you had during the relationship or feelings that rational conversation or connection is no longer possible.
Your happiness upon seeing Alexandra indicates residual affection or an understanding of the importance she once had in your life. Her desire to touch you and enter your house reflects a wish for closeness or reconciliation, but your polite refusal shows you've set boundaries. You feel comfortable maintaining a distance, suggesting you've moved on or established boundaries since the relationship ended.
Talking from the van suggests a recognition that any connection now should remain in the realm of past memories and not intrude into your current life. Your acknowledgment of having things to say but not needing to reflects acceptance and closure, realizing that the past has shaped you but doesn't define your present.
In essence, the dream reflects an introspective moment where you come to terms with your past relationship's place in your current life. It shows a healthy detachment while still holding onto the happy memories of the past, acknowledging that even though that chapter is closed, it still contributes to who you are today.
